hi people. I got I freelander 1.8 petrol 51 reg last week. I got a new clutch slave master fitted it.. as the clutch was right on the floor. the clutch is now lighter but its still not right...its hard to change gear. its not pressing enough in... can anyone tell me the reason and a fix please. I was thinking of welding 2 nuts together to make like an extention so it pushes in more. thanks help is very much needed:crazy_driver:

Welcome

Have a look at the bracket for the slave cylinder front of gearbox. Often the linkage that goes through the gearbox gets stiff and cracks the bracket and it flexes. This in effect only gives you half the clutch travel

Yup - /\ /\ /\ this!

o yes sorry I forgot I changed the bracket too....it gets worse through the day.... its like once its hot its a pain in the A** to get into gear.....I know its not working right as had to bump start it the other day as I left the lights on.. DER...while fitting a towbar, and could not be pushed while in gear with clutch down. had to force into gear while it was rolling....

Did you replace the complete master and slave assembly complete? And I trustyoudidntopen the cap?

Hi

make sure you have fitted the slave correctly in the bracket and clipped it in with the plastic c clip.

Ask someone to operate the clutch pedal while you spray the release arm with loads of 3 in 1 or such like ...see if it gets any easier, mine was as heavy as heck when I first got it..plenty of spraying sorted mine out hope this helps :)

Could well be the release bearing actuating arm bearings that have siezed up as mine have.

Gallons of penetrating fluid but sooner rather than later (next week/month) the gearbox needs taking off tbe engine and the release arm bearings soeting otherwise it's gonne be £100 everytime for a slave/master set up.

Just got mine 260 milesto LZ10 With bodgery, luck and plus gas but only delaying the inevitable.

Ask Kizzeh. (But don't mention the guinea pig :eek::eek:)
