Test drove an X reg TD4.

All seemed great, smooth power, no cloncks, bangs or whistles and checked all the vcu was in place.

BUT, I noticed when sat with the engine running and drivers door open when I pressed the clutch all was quiet, when I released it (in neutral) there was a slight noise. Hard to describe, but like a constant friction noise. Not very loud, just like a very slight scoring noise.

I'm sure my old Disco did it to some extent and my current car is doing it at the minute. Is it just normal noise from the clutch plate or is it something like the clutch on the way out, dodgy thrust bearing etc????

thrust bearing - wot yu are (most likely) hearing is the ball race in the bearing whiring.

They can go on for years like that (my X-T has). Unless it blows itself to bits, leave it until you need to change the clutch - then do it at the same time.

ah! mist that bit - find out the cost of a complete replacement clutch and get that knocked of the price.
