Hi all

Replaced slave cylinder last night, just tried to bleed the clutch but to no avail!

The fluid wash pushing through fine but no resistance is building up in the clutch pedal. Also the fluid soon turned a dark grey dirty colour in the master cylinder yet I know I have flushed new fluid all the way through the system.

Two questions;

1. Is it the master cylinder seals?

2. Could I not have correctly inserted the clutch engagement pin into the new slave cylinder meaning the hydraulic system is working but the clutch plate is not moving???

Any help will be much appreciated as it is really getting on my tits not having the Landy to play with!!

check your clutch pedal for signs of fluid leaking down it, classic sign of master cylinder failure.

Just checked the pedal mate and it's dry as a bone, definitely no signs of fluid. Could I have fitted the slave cylinder incorrectly?

well if you say the fluid is becoming murky and grey I would suspect a leak in the system somewhere.

get somebody to press the clutch whilst you look at the slave cylinder and see if the push rod is moving. Also when bleeding the clutch, bleed it slowly, or loosen the bleed nipple, press the clutch down and hold it down till the bleed nipple is tightened, then release the pedal. Reapeat this till you get clear fluid coming out of the bleed nipple. Good luck

Thanks for the advice, I've found an old bottle of fluid which I'll use to flush it right through. I'll try bleeding again once done.

Which way up did you fit the slave cylinder - a clasic mistake it to fit it with the bleed nipple at the bottom which makies it imposibble to bleed out as the air rises to the top.

If you want to do it quickly (and makes it much easier to flush though as well), go and get a Gunson Easy Bleed kit - it uses pressure from your tyre to blow the fluid down the system - asl o demonstarates where fluid is escaping (if it is!)

Bleed nipple at the top so okay on that front.

I've got an easy-bleed system but I couldn't get a good seal on the master cylinder. It just blew all the fluid out the top of the cap. I ended up with half a litre of dot4 on the drive.

It's really bugging me, any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

It was the master cylinder. Popped to Craddocks this morning to pick one up for a bargain £12 and it works fine. The bottom bolt was a bitch but other than that it was a doddle.
