Hi all you landy owners
im new to the forum and have a bit of a problem , i have just bought a 2003 td4 freelander with 60000 miles on it , my problem is when i push the clutch
pedal down it feels ok at first but then it seems to go hard and even feels like its pushing back up??? it only dose this now and then , and most of the gears changes are very smooth, the pedal never stays down just gose hard,
also some times when changing from 2nd to 3rd it seems like the clutch is not fully engaged, but again only now and then.
do i have a master cylinder/slave cylinder problem or is it a clutch problem

Try posting in the gaylander section - you'll usually get alot more help there than from us real landy owners ;)

Take it back & get a different LR :D
 
i now know the meaning of the old saying big engine small dick lol:D

I believe that what you should be saying is 'he who has only 4 cylinders has less to go wrong';):D:D:D

It's quite likely to be the cross shaft that the clutch arm attaches to seizing inside the gearbox casing. Sometimes you can free it off with plus gas, wd40, penetrating oil,etc (do give it time though, don't expect it to unseize straight away, it can sometimes take a couple of days of repeated soaking) but if the worst case scenario has happened you cannot get to the inner bush.

Check the slave cylinder bracket while you are at it as these are prone to bending so you may end up needing a new hydraulic slave and master cylinder all in one unit.
 
Can also be the release bearing on the pressure plate, if the previous driver left his foot resting on the clutch the bearing will cut a groove in the pressure plate, if it is it will be new clutch.
