Hi,

My defender has developed an intermitant fault whereby it sticks either in or out of gear, no matter how much you press the foot pedal. The problem seems to occur when slowing down or crawling in traffic.

The clutch fluid has been changed and system bled.

I'd be most grateful if anyone could shed any light on what the problem may be before I cross the palm of the local landrover 'specialist' with far too much silver!

Thanks!

Josie

You may have a worn clutch operating arm !! The ball that the arm pivots on wears through the arm ! Makes clutch nasty !!
Will need gearbox out and a new arm and maybe a good time to replace the clutch etc as well!!!

Thanks for all the advice, I'll try to investigate your suggestions.

Yesterday it started to make a whistling sound everytime I depressed or released the clutch pedal - could this help afirm the problem being the clutch operating arm or bias spring?

Thanks again,

Josie

From your description, sounds more clutch:(

Thing that puzzles me is yours is the same whether engine running or not
