Checked the clutch reservoir today and the fluid was low, looked underneath and there were no obvious signs of any leakage - topped levels up and when the clutch pedal was depressed clutch fluid squirted out of the reservoir top? Also the clutch is working ok but when the pedal is pressed down it stops at the middle point and then springs up to the top. Any ideas on both of the above?

Thanks James - can you recommed the best make and part number for a master cylinder, and is this a simple job to do? So being new to all this, why does it squirt out of the reservoir top and is the top meant to have a hole in the middle of it?

top hole is breather so vacuum isnt created when pedal pushed, some of fluid or air is been pushed back into res showing seals are poor, new one 550732G lucas one from britpart not pattern £20ish,its easier to remove pedal box 6 x bolts 13mm socket

I changed mine the other day, got the part number recomended by James above from island 4x4 25 quid all in.
I removed it in situ but its a two man job to get the bottom bolt out and especially back in.
Easy enough no more than 20 minutes.

One last question - where does the fluid leak through and where would the signs of the leak appear? Reservoir has been topped up, the Landy has been driven over the weekend and has stayed at the same level for 2 days.

if master cylinder was too leak it would make your pedal or back of it wet,but they can suck in air without necessarily leaking fluid,if slave was leaking it would be wet behind its gaiter and into bell housing but they hold very little fluid 3 pumps of pedal when bleeding

Thanks James and Lynall - checked it out and it is the master cylinder so will sort it over the weekend as it is not a major problem at the moment.
