I have a 1998 Freelander, 1.8 petrol.

Ten days ago I had the master cylinder unit replaced in my local Landrover garage. Since then I've driven almost 350 miles.

Yesterday, it was difficult to put it in gear. When I succeded, the gear did not engage and I was going nowhere! I got it back to the garage today and they tell me the clutch has failed.

Answers to the following questions would be appreciated;
  • Is the clutch failure related to the cylinder unit failing? Or am I just unlucky? :rolleyes:
  • Should the garage have noticed the clutch problem when they were fixing the cylinder unit?
  • What should I expect a clutch replacement to cost?

clutch arm seizing is quite common on the k series,before you go any further with it test to to see if the arm moves in and out freely if its seems stiff then spray some wd40 at it and leave it over night,now`s the part thats going to upset ya,its normally the the bottom pivit arm bushe in side the gearbox that does this and its a case off ird out and seperate the engine and gearbox and repair with a new cluch while its open expect £300/£400 bill
 
I had same problem on TD4. My freelander has been a pain in my ass since August. First slave and clutch then master cylinder and now in bits again, possibly flywheel. Good luck

my experience with fixing these beasts is minimal having just owned one for 7 months:eek: but my bible (haynes manual) suggests changing both the master and slave cylinder as a unit. may or may not contribute to the problem but interesting info
