Who did you have the box from. I would give them a bell an have a moan given the low miles. First time I have seen input shaft go like that. they may send you a new one. Mind you the way that that shaft has gone it almost looks like it is made of a rod inside a tube and you might not want another like it.

I noticed that cross section, odd it’s like it’s sleeved over another rod. Odd and very cheesy.

@payydg can you PM a very quick order of parts to remove to get the engine out? I have tappets, timing kit, water pump, radiator to do and I may as well do a clutch upgrade and the output seals at the same time. I’m sure the clutch fork has been upgraded but I always have that sinking feeling every time I pull away at traffic lights this could be the one :D.

Pretty much like taking any 4 cylinder in line engine out. It helps if you have an engine crane or hoist, but I always used to use a front loader.

Toying with an engine hoist purchase, or better a loader for the tractor :D

The loader is quite good, power loader is better, because if you attach to 2 points, you can angle the engine as needed.
It is also a good idea to have someone else reasonably skilled to operate the loader while you guide the engine up and out, and undo the last few bits that you forgot to unbolt! :)

If you will have to go it alone, the engine crane is easier, because it is more controllable.

I got a 2 ton crane delivered for about £100. You can get an attachment that allows you to tilt the engine forward or backwards (this makes the whole thing a lot easier).

A neighbour has one so that’s a job made easier without having to store the thing afterwards. Ridiculously one popped up on marketplace for £50 :D
