Hi All
Could someone please help me out with adjusting the clutch on my series 3 109.
I have just fitted a new clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder to my project vehicle.
After bleeding the clutch a couple of times the clutch pedal feels very "light". You don't really feel much resistance when pushing downward on the pedal until about halfway down. When you let the pedal back up after engaging 1st gear, the vehicle moves away very sharply after only letting the pedal up a very small amount. There are no fluid leaks that I can see.
I set the pedal height to five and half inches by slackening off the two nuts on the push rod and getting an assistant to hold the pedal 5.5 inches from the floor and then re-tightening the two locknuts. Is this correct?
A new clutch pedal return spring has been fitted as well.
Also could someone explain in very simple terms the procedure for the achieving 1.5mm of free play between the pushrod and they master cylinder. Where can you "see" the free play. Is it behind the rubber dust cap were the pushrod meets the master cylinder.
I apologise for my stupidity and general lack of mechanical ability.
many thanks
Mark
