Could it be the Viscous coupling?
How close does your exhaust pipe run past the cross beam, if the engine mount rubbers are getting tired the engine could be flexing far enough to bang the exhaust pipe on the beam, I know on my 4.6 petrol there's not much clearence.
front diff
If it was the diff would it not make noise constantly it only does it when going up a hill or u put ur foot down a bit ?
Should there be any movement in the front diff, when I took the prop off you can turn the diff a little each way ?
Yes it will turn a little left to right, its if it moves up and down and side to side you need to worry .
why not take it to a garage and get it checked just to be sure
Hi mate there is no movement like that just left and right turning, I looked at the transfer box but that sound as mentioned earlier is not the same. If wouldn't be anything within the gearbox would it ?
Only things that usualy make noise can be the transfer box chain rattle. Or the torq converter clutches within the unit can get noisy do does the noise change note with gear changes or remain the same . By the way the transfer box rattle would usualy be at idel no load applied
You have an auto yes.
As stated before theres a possibility that maybe the transfer box chain.
Does it make the noise if you,
1. accelerate gentle
2 accelerate hard
3. under power up a steepish hill
Is it one clunk or a series of clucks ie:machine gunning?
The sound is only there when u accelerate hard or up a steep incline, no noise at idle or if u just pull off slowly or cruising it's only when u accelerate hard. The noise is more like a series of clunks which stops if u ease up or becomes louder and more frequent if u push it more cheers
