Hi all,,
I noticed in the past week or so several noises coming from my freelander. .

It's 52 plate td freelander. .

1. It's a kind of knocking noise, which only happens when going over uneven ground..

2. A wooshing sound when accelerating, which sometimes eases off or worsens,, or dissappear completely??..

3. The past day or so the wooshing has gone to more of a screeching noise... it's as soon as setting off..

4. Sometimes when I put my break on it makes a grinding sound,, although this has been over a longer period, , but may only happen on the odd occasion. .

It's booked in to the local garage tomorrow. . I'm just dreading what its going to cost..

I would have taken the back wheels off and looked at the brakes and rear suspension first, it sounds like when you apply the hand brake it's taking up the slack and stiffening whatever is moving around causing the noise

Knocking will be the anti-roll bar llinks - Cheap and easy to change
'Wooshing' could be a split in one of the intercooler hoses? - check all hoses for splits/ get someone to rev the engine while you have a listen under the bonnet (mind your fingers :)
Brake grinding is probably the pads on the front or shoes on the rear, worst case a wheel bearing on it's way out..

Drop links. Just had ours done this morning. Smooth as silk and not too expensive fix! Good luck!

I agree with what #Browny90 says. There might be some biggish issues in there, but probably not. They sound like the sort of thing you could put a few hours into investigating at home and have cheap fixes, but giving the car to a garage, they will obviously charge you their hourly rate to investigate.
I'd add that if the whooshing has changed to a screaching, then its likely to be something driven off the drive/aux/fan belt. Which of the noises stops when you lift the hand break?

Thanks all...

Sorry only just managed to access my account..

Were near Manchester...

It's very odd as the noises aren't always constant.. They come and go, but are concerning me...

The noise comes into play usually after breaking and the speed drops under 20mph, the noise is louder the slower it gets...

Cheers guys, will have all that's been suggested checked...

P.s didn't take it to garage in the end as was put of saying they will rip me off..

I've now got it booked in at a friends garage, so i know they will let me know exactly where the issues are, just praying its not going to be mega bucks
