just about to change out the climate control unit in the centre console (again)
have ordered a new porcupine resistor (the spines are bigger than a hedgehog) in the hope this might stave the sudden battery drain issue and also stop the CC unit from burning out. Still got to check out some other relays as gap is pointing out an a/c relay short to earth. whether it turns out to be the solenoid on the a/c causing problems time will tell. have never turned the aircon on so don't know whether it works or not and don't know if it works in conjunction with heating in the car...
You ought to run the aircon all the time, it helps keep the electronics dry and reduces the risk of corroded connectors

don't suppose anyone would know if i can put a JFC500580LZL unit in direct replacement for a jfc000374puy (the climate unit in the car at the moment???
aircon tip noted!! (once i know its working fine)
