Hi folks , so here I am sitting with the engine off and there is a clicking noise (a bit. Like a motor) comming from driver side rear quarter behind panel , it slows then speeds up intermittently

Have you got the ignition on when you hear it? what car have you got?
It could be the fuel pump.

Edit. Whoops, wrong forum...thought I was in the Freelander section

its a 96 disco 1. the sound has now stopped but it has me puzzled.
it continued even when ignition was off and keys removed .im wondering if water has gotten into a plug.

If. u mean the behind the boot side panel then the vent covers may be flapping or mayby something stuck in it like a leaf.

yes it was comming from the boot area panel in the corner between the fold down seat and light cluster area.i dont have time to investigate today, does anyone know what if any components are behind this panel ?

It sounds more like a water drip from a leak further up near the quarter lights. There should not be anything electrical in there apart from the connecter for the tow socket.

Regards

Jonathan

well just taken the cover off which lets you get at the rear lights and nothing but plugs, this noise was a mechanical ratcheting type noise and went on at varying speeds for over an hour .any ideas guys ?
