Does anyone have any idea what this may be.

I have a clicking sound when setting of from junctions, stand still. I also get it when turning slowly out of the drive or carpark spaces.

Has done this since I had the car beginning of this year.

I put a reconditioned vcu on it so can't see it being that.

Things I have checked.

Chassis/rear subframe is solid no cracks. and used a pry bar over the suspension areas.

Rear CV joints all seem tight

Propshaft uj's and propshaft CV joint tight

Front near side CV joint tight no play

Front off side CV joint has slight play on the inner but pretty good outer... Could this be my problem?

Not sure what to do. Spend money on parts or do freelander generally make a clicking noise over the drivetrains?

Just flew through mot and mot inspector said it was normal as loads do it?

Probably CV But if it int broke don't fix it..

PS are yu sure it int the curlers moving around in their holder?? :D

I cut the boot floor up for a small view and it wasn't broken or rusty and made sure the mounts where tight. I did have the subframe off to change the fuel tank holder didn't notice anything wrong then either

Also I get a vibration throughout the whole car at about 60mph but only occasionally on long runs.

I also thought it was brakse but have since don't a rebuild inc new piston's, seals, ect...

So far its getting me down since I have spent loads of time searching for this noise

check brake pad slop as top to bottom excessive slop can cause all manner of noises

Mines doing it now and has for a long while, I've just not got round to doing it yet.
The brakes on mine used to occasionally give the crack sound but after some fettling it stopped.
This sound was nowt like the subframe.

I might just do what I should have done in the first place.

Wait till it breaks down, call recovery to get me home and fix it when its broken

try that worn a bit cv put a bit of grease into it but eventually it will need doing ,does it sound more with the steering in one direction or the other

Went dizzy before going around in circles in a large carpark. Can't notice any difference in sound. Couldn't even make it click actually and that was forwards and backwards circles

Then as soon as I pulled out the carpark it went click "typical"

I have just put a lot of grease in the worn CV joint to see if it helps for a quick fix. If it does I then know I need a new CV joint.

or before you buy new cv , swop the cv joints round ie left on to right of car etc , it will fix the prob with out costing you in the short term

Mine makes a click when it moves from rest - definitely from the front - until its proven to be from the rear! It doesn't matter whether the steering's left, right or straight. Doesn't happen much but generally when I first get in it - ie moving off the drive backwards - ie its been driven on forwards and I get in and reverse it off - as soon as the wheels turn, there's a click - just 1. One of those "must look into it at some point".

If your Vin number is earlier than either 2A219766 0R 3A243741 Its more than likely the rear R/H subframe can be one of two problems or both.
Land rover issued a repair bulletin on this No 0112 CDS ref L8776bu describes the fix very well I think I have seen it on site just cant remember thread
