hi mates,
ive noticed a clicking noise coming from the engine bay. the noise increases with revs, it seems to come from drivers side, but ive not had a chance to look at it under the bonnet.
its not a knocking it is definately a clicking noise, on petrol engines id have suggested that its tappets or rockers, but i know jack **** about deisel's so would like some advice.
if they have regular rockers, what gap should i set/check them, if they dont then what the heck do they have?

thanks for the reply, on the downside its a 300 so you cant help, on the upside, my haynes manual arrived from amamzon this morning:D .
but i would still like some advice as to the origin of the noise

make sure the head gasket isnt puffing out of one corner, this has like a ticking sound, its usualy the rear o/s corner where they go, but i would check all round ;)

I will pretty much guarantee that it's the Brake Vacuum Pump.

Check out the Ebay Item number: 320072467491.
(And no..it's not my shop).

I had the very same thing on my old 95 300tdi and it ended up costing me an engine rebuild as my local pr##k of a landrover "specialist" kept coming up with different possible causes as one by one his ideas fell apart as he gradually dismantled my car.
Eventually he passed the vehicle on to a guy who did know what he was talking about before disappearing, never to be seen again.

If you're out there Stuart...you're a PR##K!!!!

Sorry...got that off my chest now.
I'm certain that will cure your problem mate.
