Hi guys,

2006 Vogue with a strange noise.

When I unlock the car, I get a clicking from behind the dash for about 3 seconds which then stops. Sounds loudest if I get my head by the vents under the stereo.

If I start the car and operate the controls, I can't reproduce the noise. Tried recirc, adjusting air direction, temperature, all sorts of combinations.
I just cannot get it to click again.

Get out the car, lock it up and it starts all over again next time I unlock the car.

Ive had the side panels and under dash panels off but can't get my hands in the gaps fast enough and whatever is happening seems to take time to reset before it happens again.

Anyone had this before?

Take the plenum off under the bonnet and you'll be able to see the door motors move when you unlock the car, if it's one of those I expect you'll quickly diagnose it.

Pull the rubber seal off,
2x 13mm nuts (yellow arrow)
Vent door mechanism (no idea of its proper name (red arrow). They open and close when the car is unlocked origination cycled.

You may need to wait for the car to "sleep" if it's idle before they close so make a pot of tea and drink the whole lot. (It's around 15-20 mins)

Trying this right now. Just waiting for the ecu to go to sleep.

Annoyingly it didn't make the noise (that I noticed) when I just opened it up 🤬

There appear to be 2 sets of recirc flaps in there. The inner ones don't seem to be sitting evenly. Any ideas what they're both actually for?

OK, think I know what's happening.

It had been sat best part of an hour now.

When locked the ram or recirc doors don't seem to be closing, whichever one is supposed to. So when I unlock, it tries to open the already open doors. This is what's likely causing the clicking.

However, when the engine is running and you select recirc on and off, both doors move to closef and open positions fine.

Just need to figure out why now.

Honestly at the moment I have no idea how this is going to be fixed.

Plugged the gap tool in and I can't see an option for closing recirc on key out or unlocking.

The fact it motors fine in normal operation suggests something more obscure is happening.

I'm quite bewildered at how little information there is out there for these cars compared to the other cars that I own.

Time to hit the wiring diagrams......
