Did a quick trip to the recycling centre yesterday, after all the work I have done, the Range Rover was running beautifully.

Emptied the boot of rubbish and got back in, turned the key and all I could hear was the sound of the starter solenoid clicking!

Had to get a push to get the RR out of the recycling centre, hoping that a bit of movement would somehow free up the starter motor / solenoid, it didn't.

Rang the wife and she came and towed me home!!!

I tried whacking the solenoid/motor with a lump hammer and it started so I got it straight up on the ramps.

Got the motor off, it's a bit of a bugger to get at the upper bolt

It would go on a Bank Holiday weekend.

Starter motor on order from Island 4X4, hope it comes quickly!

There's not much left to change now on this motor so it should be reliable soon........

I did, also tried a bumpy road to see if it was mechanically stuck.

When I whacked it with the lump hammer it starter the car up but the motor sounded weaker than usual.

The other thing to look at is the cable from the battery to the starter they are pronne to internal corrosion mine was in a right mess I just put a second one on and also ran a second from the alt to the battery worth a look as a new cable is only a fiver

Ah good points chaps.

I didn't really look carefully at the solenoid as far as opening it up to clean the contacts, the new one isn't on exchange basis so I'll open it up and have a look.

Good idea on the cable from the battery, I didn't know about the possibility of internal corrosion, running two down is an excellent idea, are these dealer only or did you make them up yourself?
