hi lads , I have just had the low ratio switch swapped on my rangie as it had stuck in low ratio !!!! the message on dash says SELECT MANUAL and wont disappear now everything is ok . so how do I clear the dash message ?????????? is it a trip to someone with diagnostics or is there a easy way for me to do it ??????? suggestions most welcome its a p38 4.6 v8 thor engine 2000model :crazy_driver::crazy_driver::crazy_driver:

It's still stuck in low range or it thinks it is. Select manual only comes on in low range. It is the button near the gear lever that says MANUAL or SPORT. Pressing that whilst in low range makes the gearbox work as if it is a manual and it will only change gear as the stick is moved between each one.

still waiting further info ???????????

Could be a loose connection causing the transfer box ECU not being able to communicate with the BECM. If everything is working ok don't think you need diagnostics to clear the message on the dash.
Silly question maybe, but are you pressing the manual switch to the top right of the auto stick??

hi all and thanks for the imput . where is the ecu for the low ratio switch and what no is it ,alsp what button on the gear stick are you on about ???????????? cheers mozz ..the gears and switch unit are working fine I just need to get rid of the SELECT NEUTRAL message off the dash ?????????????? mozz

Transfer Box ECU is under passenger seat, you can access it from the back of the seat by removing the heating duct, only takes about a minute to get to it. Open it up and it's likely you'll find burning. They're cheap enough for a used one on ebay.

The switch they were on about is the sports mode switch, which is a switch to put the box in manual mode when in low range. But my money is on the transfer box ECU.

Didn't think you could access the ECU without removing the seat, there aint a lot of room to fiddle about, personally I'd remove it.
If it is the ECU Mozz try & get the uprated one (AMR6459) they can be had for around £20 off the Bay.

Hi Mozz. Thought you said message was SELECT MANUAL hence suggestion of manual/sports mode switch. If Select Neutral then yes, ECU transfer box.
Might be worth checking that there still isn't a fuse in position 11 in the fuse box under drivers seat, which may have been put in for recovery. Just a thought.

No need at all to remove the seat. You have to access it from the back though.

Your right, you don't have to remove the seat, but access is far better if you do.
Having done this job myself I'd rather do it with the seat removed for better access, after all, it's only four trim fixings, four Torx bolts & unclip the electrics to gain access, not as bad as it sounds really.
Plus you can hoover up all the **** that has accumulated from underneath the seat while your at it, no brainer really.

With mine all the way forward and up I wouldn't have said access was a problem. Screw driver fitted in nicely to access any screws and it just pulled out.

I do agree about removing the seat to get rid of all the crap, found lots of free mcdonalds chips from the previous owner when I took mine out!
