Ridiculous question I know but just news to check. I've got a re classic with the 3 spoke alloys with 255/65r16 on currently. Would 265/70r16 fit ok? Cheers

I don't know whether to say **** off or thanks. I'll go for the latter

Well if you want to be totally pedantic. If they are standard Classic alloys 7.00Jx16 that had 205R16 tyres fitted. The 255s are getting a little large for the rims 265s would be like balloons. You would need 8.00Jx16 rims for those.

I appreciate the response mate, as long as they fit. I can't use that link supplied cause I'm on the mobile telephone

A 16" tyre will fit on a 16" rim. But putting a 10.6" wide tyre on a 7" rim is asking for a little bit of rolly polly. If they are standard Classic wheels. The 265x70x16 will also have a larger rolling radius than the 255x65x16s your speedo readings will be different..

So what is the correct modern replacement size to replace original 205 R16 tyres?

205 R16 are still available have nominal aspect ratio of 80 to 82. The problem is the width of tyre being fitted to a 7" rim if he has standard Classic wheels. 205 mm is around 8.2 inches that gives an over hang of 0.6" either side. A 265 mm tyre is 10.6 inches wide giving an overhang of almost 1.5 inches either side. The rim is not wide enough for the tyre. Off road it maybe ok but on road maybe considered a bit dangerous. If you use the rim/tyre calculator at bottom you will see that max that can be fitted to a 7" rim is 225.

**** don't tell me they might be dangerous! The previous owner told me the tires on it were probably be a bit small for the jeep. I've already bought a set of all terrains that are to big for a freelander I picked up for the snow. Now the RR as well, **** haha. Auch they should be fine for the snow, I hope
