I'm going to change the rear shocks and springs on my 93 classic but have noticed theres a large shock type thing in the center, this looks to be leaking and was wondering what this does and can i do away with it as i don't remember seeing them fitted on discoverys?

That's your Boge self-levelling strut. Does what it says on the tin when you've got the rear under load. Lots of people take them off and forget about them, certainly not essential.

I took mine off the other week and replaced all the ball joints and bushes in the area. Mine was fine so i gave it a clean and put it back on with new bolts etc. Straight forward job just the usual PITA rusty bolts that wont come undone. Stripped knuckles and blue air were the main worries :D

Thanks for that, after checking the price on them i think i'll be leaving mine off.Never anything heavy in mine anyway.

As mot's go the way i'd look at it is - If its there and leaking/faulty theres a chance it could be a fail. However if its not fitted they can't test it so should be no problems.Discoverys don't seem to have them from what i've seen.
