Folks,

First real post here after years of lurking. I'm on the verge of buying that RRC that I've promised myself for ever. :D

One I looked at yesterday had non-functioning heating but otherwise was in good condition. How big a problem is this likely to be to repair?

I should mention that the driver's side footwell carpet was damp. The mechanic from the dealer said a previous viewer had left the sunroof open and it had rained in. To be fair there was no obvious smell of antifreeze but it does make me wonder if the matrix has let go. If that's the case what are chances of engine damage - its a 1993 V8.

Sounds like the heater matrix, a pattern part is about £70 but its a bitch to fit since you have to strip part of the dash.
You don`t necessarily smell coolant when the matrix goes, one variable being how much collant it had in it in the first place. I`d lift all the carpets in the front and look underneath since I`m surprised its just one footwell
I`d definitely get the head compression tested just in case, and if the vendor doesn`t want to do it I`d walk away. I`m not sure a warranty would be much use on a matrix or gasket failure, it might give an argument but not necessarily a solution
My matrix went at 70 mph in the outside lane of the M40 driving up Stokenchurch Cut, Massive bang and a car full of smoke, steam, and hot water. Not good

Thanks IGP50 (and Zen). You've pretty much confirmed my fears. I see Rave quotes 6 hours for that job even if there's no other problems.

Think I'll give this one a miss and keep looking for now.

hi all
buy the thing . It may be a big job , but god it is like a big jigsaw puzzle , with the box . mine need's doing , hopefully this weekend as no blower in winter drove me mad last year .

make sure the hints and tips and cheats are in there too :D

Ah. I wish there was a cheat guide around for RRC heater as I might have considered it. There's a nice one for P38 involving cutting off bits with a hacksaw in LRO this month.

Are you telling me that LRO actually mentioned a P38. I didn't think that they admitted that it even existed.
I bought that d**n mag for about a year before buying my P38 and learnt absolutely sod all about Rangies.

Nice one Odyssey. Some good stuff on that site.

Dogsbody, I know what you mean about LRO. These days though they seem don't seem to mention RRC much either. Its all Series and Disco 1/2 it seems.

I thought all you needed to know about P38 was "fit a new BCM" anyway? ;)
