ok thanks got it :) will go for the diode pack, thats obviously a alternator off the car job, am i right in understanding there will be some soldering involved

if you get the diodes only yes, if you get a diode pack no.

this is the diode pack

are there not three wires soldered to the pack from behind near the threaded pole pieces?

yes but that's not really technical or difficult soldering.. anyone capable of holding a soldering iron the right way around should manage it !

Hello, I have a similar situation. Series 1969 2a with a new bench tested Generator (dynamo), battery also tested good. Start the motor charging light goes out. Increase engine RPM and charging light brightness slowly increases. I have changed out the voltage regulator to a new old stock one and the result was a charging light does not go out at all. Installed the original voltage regulator agin and still same situation as described above. I have been told the points possibly need cleaned on the vr, have not done that yet. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

This thread deals with alternators. A dynamo is a completely different animal so you'd be better asking in the Series forum.
Been a very long time since I had anything with a dynamo but I do remember a new one usually needed flashing to polarise it depending whether the vehicle it was being fitted to was +ve or -ve earth - but as there are a number of things it could be I'd suggest asking as above or letting someone who knows what they're doing have a look at it.
