Hi All,

Our Freelander Sport has these Side bars which are actually stainless steel not chrome fitted from new.

My wife put a small dent on the drivers side one before christmas and im now looking to sort it.

Firstly has anyone heard of anyone flogging a drivers side one im sure we arent the only person to have marked them.

Secondly if i do man up and buy a new pair is anyone interested in our set? The passengers is perfect and the drivers has a small dent in which to be fair most would live with but im not most!!!!

Im not giving them away but will sell cheap to a good home. I had thought about getting a dent bloke to try and get the dent out too.

Cheers

PM me if you have any ideas.

Single steps come up on ebay from time to time. Probably from accident damaged cars......

If you take your car off road or go laning, I'd recommend taking them both off. The brackets for the steps will hinder your ground clearance even further. If you hit those brackets on a tree stump or something, you could risk causing serious damage to your sill, like I did.

I only hit the bracket at low speed too. It took the weight of the car, deforming the step to the point whereby it caused damage to the sill.

Ouch!

i only fitted mine so that other peoples doors dont smack your paint work in tescos !

as most other cars are lower they just hit the bars instead of my doors :p

Actually I retract my statement, they are only naff in my view and it's up to other owners whether they add style or not. Each to their own else we would all be driving the same car.

Stopping Tesco dings is a good idea, except when a bigger 4x4 draws in.....

yes, soo annoying when you see the old dears just smack open there doors into your car !!!

dont mind now lol

yes problem if there a 4x4 next to yours but usually there either a rangie or other and most owners like to look after them and so mind their doors :p

Ditto for that on my old Freelander. My new one has steps and the sides look clean and dent free for having them. The spanish are even worse for not giving a toss about opening their cars doors into yours.

You can get side strips that run along the doors. These prevent people denting your car. Here's a pic, but please excuse the colour:

Imo those are probs better for that purpose than steps.

IMO and its just that, the side bars looks much better than bump strips and finish the car off better too.

Yes, I agree that side bars/steps look a lot better. Until you hit the mounting bracket that is, and find that your sill looks like this:

Easily done if you do mild green laning.

But you can't stand on side strips to load your expedition rack :p

Update:

Drivers side has a small dent in and passengers perfect.

Will take some photos if anyones interested and these are to be collected only.

As you can see the damage is very small but I just cant leave it! My Body shop chap reckons theres a good chance to drill a hole in the back and punch the dent out using a form of centre punch, but it could leave dimples and i dont want to risk it.

These will be put on ebay as soon as the new ones are fitted and will be priced around £150+ plus Postage.

Id consider selling them on here cheaper if collected. Remember these cost £550 inc Vat from landrover.

The Plastic End Caps will not be included.

No deal will be done until they are off the car and im happy to sell them on.
