I'm in two minds about chequer plates. One one hand, I think they look kinda cool, and certainly for the wing tops, I can see their purpose, as I could anticipate standing on them as I load things onto the roof.

What's the general feeling? Worth having? Or a bit of a showy bling gimmick?

handy in some places (wing tops +/- bonnet) but not to many other places! Be very wary of landrover with chequer on the rear x-member, hides a multitude of sins!!!

i have chequer on my rear quarters and its saved the body work a few time on gnarly lanes and rocks.

I would be wary of chequer on any place, always ask how long its been on and if possible check the other side of the metal for oxidisation. Door bottoms spring to mind as they get dunked a lot, can trap water.

Not a big fan although just pranged my rear quarter so was considering plate to cover up split panel both sides of course

Quite handy for standing on to work on roofs and so on. And also good for the missis to stand on and pick fruit from high branches.:D
They do give a bit of protection fro falling sticks and suchlike. the alloy wings and bonnet are quite soft.

Just removed the chequer plate from the door bottoms and wing bottoms but kept the rear quarter plates on my newly acquired 90 a couple of pic's of the o/s

The drivers door looks like it has been replaced at some point but when we removed the passenger side chequer plate we found the chequer plate was hiding something :( don't have a pic with chequer plate removed only with the chequer plate fitted

When we get round to re- painting it ( same colour ) I will paint the rear quarter plates aswell to hide the plates, think they do serve a good perpes but think they would look better painted so they don't stand out :)

very true in 99% of cases....

however I've chequered mine cos it looks the part..... however x-member is brand new, kurusted and painted with 6 coats of hammerite before filling with waxoyl..... the x-member has then been smothered to death in copper grease and tapped so the chequer can be bolted on and removed regularly to keep it in perfect shape lol...

last toy I built... and admittedly the door chequer was not to hide damage but to give a nice level bottom to the uneven panels... wouldn't want any more than this personally...

only other chequer on my new build is the rear quarters and wing tops ....
