No matter what your doing, whether your in the shower or in the bath, it just takes a minute to check your crossmember or you'll end up with one like mine.

Id be more worried about the chassis! Mines solid had it off a couple months ago. Some light surface rust. Sanded and painded :D

Surprisingly enough my chassis is in good nick, got lot's of surface rust on it tho but no holes as of yet. It's one thing I intend to do in the next few years is to replace the chassis :)

copperslip the end plates before fitting, common corrosion spot and copperslip will prevent the chassis / x member contact rusting out

cheers steve

I've NEVER seen that before! Chassis, yes. Rear crossmember, yes! But gearbox crossmember?? Dread to think what your chassis is like

seen it several times... gearbox cross member has two flat plates that are perfect traps for water, seen so many good chassis completely rotten in the area when the cross member is removed.... really crap design.... and so simple to solve... rust treat, paint, waxoyl n finally copper grease n it'll never re-occur..

cheers steve

There is some pics of mine in exact same position. took gearbox out to do clutch. & Me & BB spent rest of weekend welding the fooker back up. Hole was bigger than the crossmember plates by the time We'd got back to good metal.

The exhaust also traveles right above where it split, I thought that might have something to do with it also.
