I just picked up a 2008 Vogue SE, Has a towbar fitted. I don't intend on using it. But everytime I start her up I get the "check trailer light", The trailer icon also stays on also and will remain on until I turn my sidelights or main beams. If i were to indicate without switching the lights on the indicators will blink rapidly as if when a bulb is gone. Am I able to just remove the fuse for the trailer lighting or how best can I resolve, Thanks in advance
 
Sounds like a bad/damaged plug, it thinks something is plugged in, i think the trigger is a load on the lighting circuit
Might be wrong though
 
Sure there's a relay for trailer and a multiplug in the wheel well unplug and see how it goes. Might even be a box of trickery on that year (i have a wrongly ordered 1 in my spares:rolleyes:)

BUT.
If a trailer socket is fitted is it not tested for MOT? (Ireland dont know)
In which case removal of all is needed.

Could just be a dodgey socket/ connection.

Thanks for that, Will check now! I haven't even checked it with a light board yet. But have read across other forums where it works fine when a board is plugged in but shows the fault when nothing is connected
 
I think you will find there is a trailer ECU involved:eek:
The 13 pin trailer socket is part of the MOT over here but they have never checked mine.

TRAILER MODULE

The trailer module is fitted to all vehicles and is located in the RH side of the luggage compartment, behind the removable trim panel, adjacent to the rear auxiliary fusebox. The module is required to separate the load circuits of the trailer from the load circuits of the towing vehicle. This allows separate monitoring of the vehicle lamps and the trailer circuits.
The trailer module comprises a double transistor for reversing lamp and rear fog lamp operation and overload proof MOSFET circuit breakers for the following lamps:
Left turn signal indicator
Right turn signal indicator
Stop lamps
Left tail lamp
Right tail lamp
Permanent trailer battery supply circuits.
The above lamps are connected to the trailer module via direct connections to the applicable lamps. The rear fog lamps and reversing lamps are not directly connected to the lamp units because these lamps must be disabled when the trailer socket is connected.
The LCM communicates with the trailer module via a bi-directional, dedicated serial link. The rear fog lamps and reversing lamps are controlled on this link. The trailer module also uses this link to transmit error messages for the trailer lamps to the LCM.
The trailer module has two modes of operation; sleep mode and normal mode. Sleep mode is initiated by the LCM after a predetermined time. In this mode the trailer module processor clock speed is reduced to a minimum and all loads are switched off to keep current consumption to a minimum. The module operates in normal mode on receipt of an applicable message from the LCM. The required loads and the current supply for bulb failure detection are activated.
The LCM communicates with the trailer module every 2 seconds with a normal mode telegram. If the trailer module no longer responds, the data link to the module is switched low for 1 second after ten unsuccessful attempts to establish the communication. When the LCM switches the data link low, the trailer module is 'reset'. If communication is not established after thirty attempts in succession, the LCM assumes the module is defective and records an applicable error message in the error memory.
If a replacement trailer module is fitted, the LCM instantly recognizes it via the data link. Connection of the Land Rover recommended diagnostic tool is not required to establish communications between the LCM and the trailer module.
 
So should i disconnect the LCM until I can get someone to rewire or any thoughts? Probably just going to have the TowBar removed when possible
 
The LCM is at the bottom of the A pillar down by the drivers footwell but DON'T disconnect that as it does other things. I'd just disconnect the trailer module in the boot.

Found the bugger! I cannot for love nor money get the connection off as it is sitting right on top of the fuse panel. I'll throw a 10mm socket on it later to remove from where it sits to give me more room to get at it

Not directly , but I have a feeling it comes under 'illegal modification ' as per .gov I suppose like everything on .gov it's open to interpretation.

Could be. Pretty sure you can't present a car for MOT with a trailer attached either though at that point the trailer lights would need to work. I suppose there's test a car with a bicycle rack and light board, which must also work, thereby the socket working ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
 
Here for the NCT (Equivalent of MOT) They just have a trailer board that they plug in during the test to check that it works, I know people who have had issues and just removed the electrics for the test.
If they are there they have to work, But if no socket it's ok
 
Finally got around to taking the LCM out today and warning is now gone from dash Thanks so much for all the help getting it sorted
