Hi
After finishing replacing my head gaskets (which has taken me awhile to complete), recharging my battery, I got no response from my engine. The 'CHECK ENGINE' symbol doesn't go out, I'm not receiving message 'Engine Disabled' along my dashboard which I can usually solve by pressing my fob.
Years ago I had my BECM sorted regarding my alarm, I do have other messages which I had beforehand regarding EAS, ABS.
Can anyone point me in the right direction in fault finding my engine starting problem I have?

For some reason the ECM is not completing it's function check and putting the Mil lamp out. Diag is the way forwards.
 
time to invest! These guys can recommend some good kit or a visit to the dealers with follow up work can be more than you'll pay once for your diagnostics! If you have no physical evidence then as wammers says it's time to get technical....whaa haa!

Hope he doesn't get clouds of diesel smoke Mark, think his car is a 4.0 petrol from his details. After replacing head gaskets maybe a clue. ;);)
 
just a reference to magical happenings! What about clouds of petrol type engine smoke stuff? Like errr...

Why would this happen doing a normal job on the vehicle?
I replaced an engine before and never had this problem, could you expand on what route I can take to solve this....do I need a plug diagnostic kit?

P38s need special diagnostics like a Nanocom, normal ODB stuff won't work.
Whereabouts are you Colin from Hull, there might be someone near you with a Nanocom that could help...

Mil lamp is Malfunction Indicator Lamp or Engine Check Lamp. When ignition is switched on the MIL lamp lights and the engine ECU does a self check to confirm all is correct. If all is well the lamp goes out. If it detects a fault the Mil lamp stays on. There can be many reasons for this, you need diagnostics to tell you why the Mil lamp is on. You can guess for the rest of the year and not find the fault. Maybe major more likely something and nothing but you need diag to find it.

If it's thor, I have diag and often pass through Hull but unfortunately I won't be there for a while. Also, my nanocom is in Czech at the moment.
If you still haven't fixed it in a couple of weeks, I might be able to help.
 
I would agree with the sage advice given here, but while you await said witchcraft device, why not have a look for missing things...

It could be something as simple as a plug not properly home, or more likely, dirty corroded connections, especially if, as you say, it's been lying a while.

Maybe an earth not connected, starter motor wire, solenoid wire, dirty/corroded connections in the fuse box or where the relay pins connect.

Me? I'd pull each fuse under the bonnet check it for corrosion and stick it back in. May take ten minutes, but you get peace of mind knowing at least you checked ;)

I now the the Blackbox Solutions modules ECU, Becm.......would someone give me some step by step instruction, eg what I should check/ be looking for when using these modules.
