Cheap cats are just that - cheap. If you are intending keeping the car more than one MOT's worth then I'd look for a better compromise between price and quality.
Some of the Cats I've been asked to fit to Freelanders have such a thin matrix in them that they struggle to pass the first MOT,then fail on the second one.
Are you sure you need new Cats ? Many are changed when the car fails the emissions test as the second of the "parts shotgun" approach - the first being the Oxygen sensors. They still fail, and all that was wrong was a failing set of plugs or leads.

the reas on i think i need my cat (or cats) changed is that i had the same symptoms on my bmw 540 v8. where i would be driving then when applying accelatation i would get a humming/drumming(?)noise from under the car and the car would have horrid vibration.

i had £100s of diagnostics on the car.. cylinders changed etc.. and it turned out to be the CAT. So got them changed and hey presto the problem was gone.. now ive had this land rover since sunday and ive got exactly the same sinario on this car so im almost certain its going to be the same problem (obviously gonna take the car to a garage 1st to ask them to check the cats before buying. but thought id do some homework in adv and find out where i can get a cheap (but reasonable quality) cat from as ££ is v tight atm..

jsut had a look doesnt seem bad... if u do the search for discovery model its £205 inc VAT (if that for both or just one side??)
as there are 2 cats on the discovery arnt there?

you will end up paying for what you get, a cheap one will indeed be a cheap crappy one, mines made of a lot thinner metal and as a result theres a lot more noise resonating from it, if i could i would def buy decent cats next time but maybe thats just me as i plan on keeping the car.

the place i mentioned above seems to be a decent quality cat for a copy and compared to the cost of an original, they are really good for the money. but at the end of the day it is up to you buddy its your vehicle and money.
