Hi guys, thinking of coming back to the land rover scene.

Done abit of research and kept my eyes open on the market. And noticed the early TD5's seem to be low in price. About 2000/2001 years.

With about 80k on a FSH.

Is there any reason for this? Around 4/5k seems cheap to me

Thanks in advance

The pre 02 ones have possible head gasket issues and the electrics are pretty spotty to say the least.

Find out if service has been carried out on it; to fix the plastic head location dowels and the oil pump bolt replacement (notice from LR about bolts loosening). The early TD5s are fine. Just like any other land rover; make sure regular maintenance has been done.

If it's been maintained, and it's cheap... You've found yourself a deal.

I have a 10P I'm "catching up" to normal maintenance. Sure it takes time and money; but I know it'll treat me well after.

Think alot of people (myself included) much prefer the later style dash even if it is a very easy thing to change so that can keep prices down too as many may dismiss earlier ones when just briefly checking through classifieds for a Defender unless one really stands out.

Then the mechanical issues as said but to be honest, I'd imagine all of those will either have died off or fixed at this stage when it's 10-15 years on now since they were built.
