Hi,

I'm debating on buying a front Chassis Leg / Spring Hanger / Dumb Iron (whatever you want to call it) but all the reviews I have read on the web have said that britpart ones are crap and I cant seem to find any non-britpart replacements. So I am most likely going to weld it, however my dumb irons are heavily corroded and taking dimensions from them isn't really possible!

Does anyone have any AutoCAD / Solidworks 3d models with dimensions that i could work from or does anyone have hand drawn dimensions? If not could someone please measure out theirs and upload plans!

I bought Britpart dumbirons. Nitemare of this parish fitted them for me and made a really good job, it is all to do with the skill of the person fitting them. I will tackle most jobs but that was beyond my welding comfort zone.

Do a search for "Divies Dumbirons" or maybe it was under welding chassis, Nitemare put up loads of pics when doing mine.

i've no idea where the thread is on Divies dumbirons but i've had a bit of practice replacing them (3 or 4 pairs now i think) i've also gutted one pair on my 109 and rebuilt them

i've been playing with hot metal glueing for a number of years now and i just take my time, look at the job carefully before you start and jig it, the most important bit is to have the spring eyes in the correct position, the next thing to consider is the angle of the dumb iron as that will affect the angle that your bumper will sit or if you can even fit it

i don't particularly like britpart dumb irons i find they need a fair bit of fettling to make a nice job and thier dimensions so far have been rubbish (not to mention there's no support inside them for tightening the bumper bolts down on  if you want them really tight) as a make do and mend and there's only one other make that i know of (really expensive in comparison) they do just fine

p.s.
get the powder coat off the areas that you intend welding carefully

Just welding a mix of brit part and yrm outriggers etc on mine. Brit part are not as good, but still does the job.

Every bit needs a fettle, maybe because the LR did far from a perfect job first time. I know a least one of my outriggers was 5 mm out from the factory....best advise is to measure, measure, measure. Then get the grinder out. Then buy a new chassis :D
