The charging light should be wored betwen ign live and the alternator. When you turn the ign on the current goes through the bulb and through the alternator coils to earth and creates the exciter field. Once its spinning the voltage comes up and both sides of the bulb see 13.5 v so its goes out.
Checked the charging bulb tonight. It isn’t coming on with the ignition but the bulb is ok. Does anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram for this from.
Thanks for all the help
If the charge bulb is ok, then check it's actually getting voltage from the ignition switch, check the holder as well for corrosion, it should illuminate when switch is on, trace wire back to fusebox and check termination there too
Hi. Update on the charging issue
After all the help I think I have managed to find the problem. The second wire which comes out of the alternator goes to the bulb. This was not wired up. I re wired it and now the charge light comes on with the ignition and goes off when the engine starts. Also I am now getting much stronger and regular voltage across the battery when the engine is running so think this will charge the battery. I will take it for a run later and hopefully all will be good.
Just want to say a big thank you to everyone that helped me. Without all the replies I would not of sorted it.
Much appreciated and hopefully I will be able to return the help to someone here to
