Is it ok to connect my Ctek MXS 5.0 battery charger straight to my Defender 300tdi battery without disconnecting the +/- leads? Would it cause any issues?

Its fine with an intelligent type of charger, many bikers use similar to stop the alarms draining the battery, would be a lot more cautious about using the old style transformer type

if it helps, I charged my 200 disco the other day without problems with the same sort of charger, but my disco dont have so much electrickery as yours possably.
I also charge my lexus without any problems too, and thats full of electrickey ;)

I leave my optimate III connected all the time on the jaguar

Smart chargers are excellent at keeping it in good condition

we leave the S1 on permanent charge, everything connected. (when not in use)

Had to charge the S2a red-top battery over the weekend too (nothing disconnected) - it would appear that my alternator is not too fond on outputting electrickity when the engine is running... it used to, but, i think it's having a mid-life crisis and is about to decide it actually wants to be a power steering pump (without the correct parts) :/

after having an alternator problem about 18 months ago,
and the temprory fitting of a modified volvo 740 one
(still on & charging)
with the new replacement alternator still in its cardboard box
I fitted a smart little digital electrickery reader in between the 2 unused dash buttons on my disco 200.
the Idea was to wire it to the rear screen heater switch above it,
so with rear screen on, it would give me an accurite readout of electrickery circuit.
it looks so good you dont notice it being there..................

also, as I never got round to connecting the 2 thin wires yet,
you dont see it lighting up yet either

cant rush electrickery jobs can you now......or is I just a lazy old fecker

Exactly! I can live with charging up the red-top and carrying a spare for a few months until I get round to doing the alternator :D

I bought a Gwyn Lewis mount for the engine some time ago - the problem with mine is it's actually out of aline with the engine which causes no end of snapped fan belt issues, anyway, still not fitted it (due to my header tank being in the way) and now my friend's found an alternator with extended pully which would do the job perfectly, so, assuming it goes for sensible money on eBay I'll get that and sell the Gwyn kit!

Bet it'll still sit on the shelf for 6 months though!

ah, electrickery, you have to be careful of that stuff ;)
lol, when my alternator did fritz up, I just charged my twin batteries and run locally on then for about a week, before I "borrowed" the 2 rather dead/dusty looking volvo alternators.. the one I chose has a twin pully on it, and it looks like its lost something somewhere along the way bless it..

note to self - fit the ruddy new landy one, then I can have my rev counter back again too (but not lost it, just got used to not seeing it move now)

oh, and fit the oil warning sender switch, and the new thermastat, and give it oil change - oh dam, got lots to do when its warmer :D

but the old disco just starts every time, no heater plugs, just switch on and it goes, and goes, and goes bless it..

Im thinking of getting a solar charger to keep me battery top up,as me motor dont move often

And the " big truck batterys I found
