Hi Guys,

Today I changed the windscreen wiper motor in my D2 as its was clearly on its way out. It was struggling to turn at slow speed, but ok on quick speed. I didn't want to end up in a situation with lots of rain and the wipers packing in!

Although it generally comes as a full assembly, I found the you can buy just the motor from John Craddock a lot cheaper (£38.85 + VAT). Its not really any more effort to change the motor over into the assembly and it does save around £80 + VAT. I took the assembly out before ordering, just so I was sure there was nothing wrong with that causing the problem. I also took the motor apart to check the brushes etc, but they looked fine.

To get at the motor you have to take off the A post black finishers, and it turns out to do that you write off the trim clips that hold them in place (you knock the centre out and into the A post). So you need to get hold of 6 of these before you start the job. Took me a while to figure what the part number was.

Also found it quite tricky to get the finisher back in, until I took the spring clips off the car, and attached them to the finisher. Then it was very easy to do, just line up and clip into place. GUess they were designed to be done that way, just no mention of that in rave!

Getting the plenum air intake off was also pretty tricky, but it does come out with the bonnet still in place, just remove the rubber side bits, and struggle with it for a while! What I did not realise at first (as its not in rave) was that it has 4 clips that go up under the windscreen, so you need to pull down to release them.

Parts numbers I used :-

Motor : DKD100620M X 1
Clips : 79086L X 6

Hope those part numbers save anybody having to search for them in the future.

changed my wiper motor yesterday as when on intermitent mode, it would stop anywhere except in the park position.
would just like to thank the author of the above for making what could have been an awkward job into a straight forward one.
unlike in the above article i did remove the bonnet, surprisingly light. also i found getting the A post trim back on a severe test of my patience:mad:. took me 3 hours to do whole job, and wipers work as they should:).

Your welcome :)

Turns out I had to change mine again a few months ago as the motor completely shorted out and blew the fuses. Got a new motor under warranty, but still a pain to have to do the job again. Maybe I should have bought the entire assembly rather than just a cheap motor!

Hi i no this is a old post but just changed my motor and linkage today as they stopped parking in correct position and the linkage appeared to be worn. I removed bonnet then removed 2 plastic screw/clips with a old wood chisel undo 10mm bolt in the centre and plastic panel slid forward (no need to remove the trims either side of the windscreen) i did find that the motor was loose on the backing plate and the linkage wasnt worn however i change it all and used 2 8mm nuts and bolts instead of 2 plastic screws took me 45 mins easy job :)
