I've given up with this abortion of a Land Rover..... chassis is basically ****ed.

Now, I have laid my hands on a good one. It is a 200tdi chassis but I have a 300tdi engine. I have the 300tdi auto gearbox crossmember so that should be a direct swap but I was wondering about the engine mountings

Been looking on the net but there is too much conflicting info about for me to make a decision

So - what'd you guess?

I am collecting the chassis tomorrow early morning then it is going off for shotblasting, I can then get it back and re-weld mounts if needed but I'd rather make a conversion bracket up if possible instead of tampering with the chassis itself. Once a dry fit has been done and it is all good, it is going off to be galvanised :D

Help, pretty please

both same size block direct bolt in:D:D

according to the land rover history site said the 200d and 300d are same size block with different insides. They changed the crankshaft in them the later with 4 main bearings as older had 3 main bearing . Any way the history has all the info on the motor history and why the changes came about. Hope this helps:D

i think i want to beg to differ actually.

i have been looking under a few tdis recently as i am planning to swap to tdi, and iirc the 200 has different front mounts to the 300

this will be very easy to tell though - simply drive to see the chassis in your car and compare.

the 200 definitely definitely has different engine mountstho the 300, whether the chassis is the same im a little unclear about but my hunch is that they are different.

cheers

Yep that sounds about right should be easy for you.:p:D
a little chassis repair and then galvanizing?

Hopefully no repair. Just a good blast, any modifications to be made then off for dipping and galvanising.

I have done a little more digging and it seems body mounts are different but I can cut the old ones off if that is the case and fabricate some new ones to the same spec as my 300.

Until I get the 200 chassis here, I cannot compare side by side as my 300 is now well and truly ****ed.

Have you tried removing the 300 chassis and cleaning it up then repairing it. the prob with changing to a 200 chassis is they are difarent in mounts for the body and engine. That or it may be better to by a fire damaged 300 with a good chassis

Land rover say's the 2.5na , 200,300 have the same out side block's all external parts are interchangeable, and this info is from land rover. Where do you get your info from Noisy??

Spoke to a few other people and it seems to be the gearbox x member and possibly changing 1 engine mount location.

All we'll do is take the body off the 300, roll the chassis out. Measure up and check then cut fabricate as needed then lift engine out of 300 and into 200, dropping body on afterwards.

Should be able to do it in a weekend :)

now I may be wrong (peeps will shout if I am), but I thought the problem was not the type of engine mounts, but that the gearboxes were different lengths and that positioned the injun mounts in a different place. That was, I thought the problem mounting the injun, not the type of mount.

you may be wrong tis allowed .gear boxes are same length lt77 ,r380, 4speed auto ,its only engine mounts that differ ,all the chassis even defender share same mounting holes for transmission r380 has shorter bell housing /input shaft to make up for extra length in extensoin housing

I've got a 4 speed auto 300 so it may just mean a few more hours spent fettling. I know all the chassis were the same dimensions, I didn't know about actual mounting points. Body mounts are defiantly all the same for the 1st gen discos. As there is only 1 aftermarket size replacement sill ;)

i knew there was summat different :D.
There is a prob with swapping disco boxes into deependers anorl.

200tdi defenders and earlier do use short boxes and rear fitted engines ,put mount for transmissions still line up as disco /rrc, 300tdi defenders have engines that sit in same place as disco and so all 4 speed autos or disco lt77 or r380 would just bolt up but gear stick would be wrong ,disco 200 and 300 front props are the same as defender 300 tdi the good thing lr did with 300 was to rationalise parts as front axles except calipers are the same disco r380 and rrc 90 rears are as well obviously not salisbury on 110

Well, I'm taking the Izuzuzuzuzuz with trailer to collect the 200tdi for definite. All arranged so by mid day tomorrow it'll be on the floor ready for its new life.
