I am going to change the fuel filter on my 06 TD4.

How long should the job take if all goes well and are there any pitfalls to be aware of?

You should have it done in an hour, its pretty straight forward.
The bolts that hold the carrier on will be rusty give them a spray the day before

Mine had a screw which you can't see from above. It is inbetween the filter and the pump around half way up. The last eejit that worked at it just broke the cradle to get it out.

Best to remove the whole carrier and change it on a work bench, also don't forget to drain off the pot,

Will I need to remove the wheel to do this job?
It's not mentioned in my Haynes manual, but I would have thought the extra room for access would be beneficial.

It's not 100% necessary to remove the wheel but doing so will improve access.

I did post a lot of pics on another thread, struggle to post them from Tenerife as the wifi is slow. but here is assembly unbolted, you can remove the whole thing by unclipping the pipes at the back the blue bits push in.
