I'd like to trade mine for a Series 2 V8 or Series 2 TD5. Cant afford to for at least 5 years!!!, but those would be my choices.
Plenty of High milers both V8 and TD5 with little reported problems. Just be wary running V8's on LPG as I have had a few converstions with owners with cracked blocks etc.

The Discovery 3 is fantastic, and I'd love one.
I find the D2 rather uncomfortable, and haven;t got to grips with the TD5 engine. I'm sure all models of Land Rover have their own niggles but agree the TD4 is pretty sound. The D1 is getting a little elderly and the rust has set in to many of them.
I reckon a D2 is a good comprimise, if you can live with the TD5. Which I couldn't.

get a disco2 td5, in my opinion, it's the most reliable land rover ever made, get the latest one you can afford. Sure, they have niggles but nothing like what the freelander has and once fixed, most don't reappear, unlike freelander.
Forget the disco3, its ****, too many electrical faults, lovely car to drive but it'll spend more time at a dealer than on your driveway, same goes for freelander2, they're **** aswell, horrible to drive and that stupid keyless start thing, crap!

Oh yeah!!!! Spose thats what happens when you work in a dealer, you only really see the bad side of a product, that said though, I worked at a suzuki dealer for 3 years and still bought a vitara, and had 5 years trouble free motoring with it.
I'd never buy a disco3 or freelander2 though, if i had to buy a landrover, it'll be a disco2 ES V8 auto and I'd rip out the 4.0 and fit a tuned tvr 5.0
Hmmmmmm, I'm being pushed even closer to the brink....I'm going to start looking tomorrow, by asking at the dealership that's fixing my latest freelander fault....
