Hi all,

I need to replace all bushes on my 1986 90 before the MOT.
I was thinking about using polybushes for the replacement.
First question, Britpart or Flo flex, I can save around about a £10 if I buy Britpart ones but I've read a few posts and there parts aren't exactly favourited of some people. Also flo flex have a wider colour range, which doesn't matter too much but I have found a pink set on eBay from there shop for £66 inc shipping.

And the second question just how much can I take off my 90 at any one time to take arms etc to have old bushes pressed out whilst leaving it on all 4s.

Radius and trailings would be ok, just chock everything front and back to keep stuff there it should be.
steering bars ok
antiroll ok.
rear shocks not sure if id take these off at the same time as the trailings. front shock (presuming it has bushes, not actually looked) is a spring out job anyway.
 
I would go for the flo flex for the extra £10.

When I do mine i take 1 radius arm of at a time. You don't always need a press to get them out. Chop the rubber to remove the inner ring then use a strong socket to drive to outer ring out. That's all I have ever done.

Make sure you chock the wheels, and support the axel though. Helps to java a spare jack to help get it back on if anything does move though.
 
Brilliant thank you everyone. I can get them pressed out for free the guy at my local Land rover place (Evolutionary 4x4) so if I get stuck with one i can sort it.
Think I will go with the flo flex ones. Or just spotted th illumine us green pro trac ones from mm4x4 :D £90 mind...

Polybush is a brand so don't confuse things, there are several types of polyurethane bushes on the market and Polybush is just one (although probably the original).

Personally I have never found the need for a press when changes bushes, the holesaw & hacksaw method has always worked for me and each bush can be done start to finish in about 20-25 minutes which is handy if you are miles from anyone with a press. I can start in the morning and have the whole vehicle completed by lunchtime.
After 15-years ownership of my current 90 the standard fit metalastic is still my favourate. The originals lasted for years, the OE replacements were just as good whereas the Bearmach blue polyurethane bushes that I currently have fitted are too harsh for my liking. Although only 3-years old I am going to bin the Bearmach blue's this year and go back to OE. They are relitivley cheap, last well and I find them easy to fit.

Litch, how do to you get the new ones back in again - threaded rod or summit?

I've heard fairy liquid makes it easier too, as best not to use grease. But isn't fairy just concentrated salt?
 
polys are easier to fit, warm them, and they just push in, the metal collor on the inside is then inserted with a hammer, dont know about other, but my superpros came with a special silicone based grease for assembly
 
Even on OE bushes?

For OE bushes just make sure the hole is smooth & clean, lubricate will some light oil and press in using a suitable sized piece of tubing or a socket (rememebr you are pressing against the outer sleeve, not the inner). You can use a threaded rod or even a large vice but I always do it using a hammer, I don't mean just belt the hell out of the thing but make sure it is going in straight you should find it doesn't actually take much effort to slide it in. If you burr the edges over then it means it is not straight, you are hitting too hard or the tube you are using is not the correct size.
