MONGOOSE MOD

New Member
Hi guys, first time here so any advice would be appriciated. I have a '85 110 na ex MOD, had the old girl for over a year and wouldnt be without her! I'm doing more motorway miles now, and a cruising speed of 55mph makes for a long day! 65 of 70 would be great, could i achieve this by changing the gearbox or transfer box for a disco unit or will i have to swap to TDi power? Also if i have to change the engine is the 200TDi the best option in tearms of cost, performance and difficulty of swap? Thanks in advance.

your best bet would be to get a 200tdi from a disco AND a disco transfer box.

i picked up a 1989 200tdi disco with 137k on the clock for £400 the other week, to do that exact thing to my 1987 TD. Got the engine in now, but havnt got round to the tranny box yet.

i dont know havnt got mine on yet! but its sposed to improve fuel economy and make it more comfortable cruising at slightly higher speeds, although the lack of aerodynamics of your 110 will still limit your realistic cruising speed to 60-70mph, unless you can put up with biblical fuel consumption!

I dont know if it would be wise to just put on the disco transfer box, as a NA probably doesnt really have enough power, especially if you have larger tyres. Acceleration will be terrible.

Id get a 200tdi and disco transfer box, best set up.

I have found a 200tdi for sale, with radiator but missing the injector pump for £!60 - is this worth it?

You'd have to ask yourself why the bloke only wants 160 quid for it when they regularly fetch 500. I wouldn't buy one unless I'd seen it running and preferably still in the vehicle so I can give it a thorough testing.

He rekons that the disco has a buggrayed gearbox/transfer box, and so hes breaking it. how interchangable are the injector pumps? Will i need to get the engine recalibrated and stuff like that? Or should I just avoid thoe whole thing?

When was the last time you brought a disco engine?? You can buy a complete disco for £500 now. £350 for a complete engine with all ancillaries is the going rate at the moment. someone is selling a 3.5v8 disco with mot but knackered engine and a good replacement 3.9efi engine for £550 or £350 without the efi engine.

Probably easier to get a complete engine look on ebay and other forums £300 to £350 is the going rate.

piece of **** because the PAS will already be fitted to the disco you just need a PAS box for the 110. The one off the disco may even fit. (don't know for definate )

yeh it does, accordin to the fella on the fone at steve parker land rovers when i rang up to order my downpipe a few weeks ago!
