Just had a phone call.....a guy who I know has asked me to do a full overhaul on a P38 diesel  which includes sorting out his EAS which has decided to drag it's ass on the floor, full service and whatever it takes to get it back to A1 condition, time is not an issue, I can take as long as I need to restore it and he is paying by the hour.
His thoughts are to sell it when finished as it belonged to his late wife who died just before Xmas last year and was her pride and joy.

Would have preferred an old series though !!!

Nice & sunny over here, only signs of ash are in the ashtray :smokin::smokin:

How's things with yourself..and how's the motor going??

well motor going great, nice and sunny here. had my bumpers colour codeed looks the dogs. next time you over will bring it down and we have a drink, as long as you dont pick on me again..

I hope it doesn't come to an engine rebuild with all them orrible dirty oily bits on the kitchen table. I'll get Gav over for that !!
:hysterically_laughi

Right...motor arrived today having been driven on Irish roads, on the bump stops for about 25 miles, the guy was wearing his piles like a necklace !!
Got the diagnostics on it and because it had been stood, plus a flat battery for weeks previously, it had gone into hard fault mode. Cleared the faults, sent it to Standard height with the diagnostics and up she came, albeit slowly. Sent her up to High and checked the system with leak detector spray and all looks good. Dropped to Access then back up to Standard, took some time but got there in the end. Stripped the compressor and the seal looked a bit sick so I|changed it and now it flies up.
Next job is doors do not unlock with fob and passenger door is deadlocked. Rear doors unlock when drivers door is unlocked with key, have checked out wiring behind drivers side kick panel, white multiplug a bit green, cleaned it..no change. Can't lock & unlock drivers side and passenger side fronts with diagnostics so I think there is a dodgy bit of wiring somewhere...Where's Gav:behindsofa: !!
Had a quick look at the rest of it...engine oil black, ATF in auto box looks a bit pale, brake discs worn so still a bit to do.

Removed drivers door latch..right pain in the ar*e, just like those wire puzzles you got as a kid at Xmas. Stripped it down and evrything looked cleanish and free of cra*. Checked the operation of the microswitch with a multimeter, all ok. Put external power to the motor, neg. to "green" pin..looks like linked ground to lock/unlock directions and pos. to other pins one at a time got a spark when connected to one pin, nothing to the other, but no real movement..just a click.
Anyway, lightly greased it and refitted to door, all wiring connectors nice and clean.Problem still there...drivers door locks & unlocks on key in handle, as do the rears, front passenger door still superlocked. Fob locking not working.
Prior to removing latch, tried locking/unlocking both doors with the becm diagnostics..nothing..no clicks to indicate motors were trying to do anything. Rear doors worked a treat however with diagnostic commands.
All connectors are clean and wiring looks good from "A" post connectors to door outstation and beyond to latch connectors (Drivers side). My belief is, correct me if I am wrong, that the Drivers door sensors etc. are the "Master" and the passenger door latch is the "Slave". When the drivers door is locked/ unlocked remotely, the state of the switches drives the other latches to follow suit via becm outputs EXCEPT the rear doors which are driven by commands external to the becm, e.g. hard wired.
There appears to be a fine line with the issue between a motor fault on the latch and a becm problem. I am more fortunate than most in somuch that I have a spare good becm which I can clone to the car..this is my next step. With the latches costing £120 apiece:eek: I need to determine 100% the problem area.
I could, remove the latch from my own car and substitute it with the one on the car, but given the grief and manipulation removing and refitting it...I wonder if it's prudent, time wise.
Saga to be continued............

Hey up John

Let me know if you need a latch to test as i may have a spare one in my shed of many things

PS got my new engine from the scrappy last week, so just got to change all then ancillaries over and refit to my blown engine project

Will resurect the original post with some pics of it later this week

Hi Cavey....Thanks for the offer. The owner has ordered a new (Genuine) lock assembly from Island 4x4...£129.99 incl.VAT.

Good to see your projects are coming along.
:welcome:

Not as fast as i would like but
have been away a lot with work and then knackered so havent got in the workshop

so can't do project with no money so need to work hey ho

good luck with your challenge

Stuff ordered from Island 4x4 on Monday morning...filters,discs and pads, door lock haven't arrived yet. Usually only takes a couple of working days, so nothing much happening.
I like to get the engine up to temperature before draining the oil etc. and to do that the car has to be outside so I don't get smoked out of the garage. If I make a start on the brakes, the car will be up on axle stands and I can't move it...caught between a rock and a hard place !!!
Not getting too dirty for the pub anyway....:smokin::beer2::beer2::5bbeatdeadhorse5:
