Just fitted a new battery and the central locking wont work?
Its a two button fob?
When it did work all was well apart from the drivers door wouldn't quite push the button up enough so you had to turn the key a fraction to get it to open.
So how do I fix this?
 
Press the lock button four times to re synchronise the fob with the ecu. The info is in the owners handbook.
Also sounds like the drivers door lock has an iffy spring.

Book tells me its that for Fob battery I have changed the vehicle battery

I was sure the book also mentioned the disconnection of the vehicles battery, anyway the principle is much the same, the fob and Ecu had lost its 'association' therefore requires the resynchronising between the two which is a D1 thing as D2s don't need it, or 3 and 4 or any other modern vehicle i know of.

There is a procedure to stop the BBUS sounder from making a noise when the vehicles battery I'd disconnected, but after this time it's doubtful that the sounders battery is still okay, so as u may have found out the sounder didn't sound.

how easy is it to change the springs for the door lock as mine does not always come up fully and i have to open the rear door and lift it up to get get?

Tis fiddly ...

If you have sausage fingers, let someone else do it ... :D

1- remove door card, taking care not to damage the clips
2- undo the bottom retaining bolts for the window runners
3- undo the top retaining bolts (one just above the door catch and the other on the front face)
4- remove the inner mirror trim to allow you access to the mirror wires and disconnect to allow the top of door to be raised
5- I would advise to take digital photos of the lock mechanism to assist rebuild
6- lift top of door, with window about half way up, until you have access behind mechanism
7- remove the linkages including an awkward 7mm I believe on the mechanism end of the inner leaver
7- remove the catch from the door

From here you should be able to see where the broken spring is.

Rebuild is the reverse of removal. Using the photos as reference as required.

Tips:

Have some very pointy pliers to hand, they help a LOT!
Do it in a place where you can easily find the spring again - it WILL ping off several times before you get it right
When you put the lock back in the door, fit all the rods before you bolt the catch back in place
and try it before you put the door card on ...
