Yup have designed a cct or two over the years (30+) - my first time with a car where computers are driving everything tho' - avoided them up to the hippo, thought the MEMS on the Rover 400 K series was bad enough. Shame we can't get our hands on the real schematics - then it would get a lot simpler? :)

Anyone out there got a dud ECU that Darmain could canibalise? Even one with a big dent in may still be useable? :confused:
 
Thanks for that Mystery. I have to say I haven't put much effort into locating a new relay as yet but I must get round to it before I'm locked out. :D:D:D
 
Darmain, I'm thoroughly impressed by your knowhow and bravery in tackling a Land Rover's electrics....so can you help me with a problem with my Disco Td5 2002 Serengeti, please?
Completely unannounced, and not having moved for the best part of a week in a securely locked and private drive, the alarm went off one evening last week. I reset it with the remote and shortly after it did the same thing. This time I left it unlocked as some people round here were getting ready for sleep.
Now, the remote wont lock the doors (which the handbook says will happen when the driver's door isn't closed properly....if it was a different door or bonnet the system would arm and lock as much of the vehicle as it could except the unclosed door/bonnet) and any attempt to do so sounds the horn once. Locking the driver's door by key locks the doors but still sounds the horn once. sat inside the car, pressing the central door locking switch on the dash works perfectly.
Any ideas what could be the cause? Perhaps coincidently, I went out the other night to see if I could fix it and noticed an eerie glow from inside the car...the dash clock was illuminated, yet no lights were switched on, nor was the ignition. I fiddled with the fuses and though the clock's brightness diminished, it could still be read. Subsequent fiddling with fuses, replacing the car battery with a new one (just in case, £111 from the Stealers..ouch), I've sorted the clock which isn't now illuminating unless the car's switched on.
Your brain power on this one would be appreciated.:confused::confused:

Well, my first suggestion would be the state of the battery, especially as the vehicle has been stood up a while. However, you are already off down that path now. So, has changing the battery had any effect on the operation of the central locking system? It seems to have fixed the clock(?). Please can you re-assess the situation with the new main battery and report back. Remember that you may have to resynchronise the remote with the car again. Refer to your owners manual for this, but if its anything like the Freelander then if you put the key in the ignition, with the remote on the key ring, then switch the ignition on, then this should do the job for you.

You do have me at a disadvantage in that the car in question is not in front of me and I am not familiar with the Discovery. However, I will do my best to assist. I can see me download RAVE for the Discovery shortly... :D

Thanks for your interest and reply. Having read a few more threads, the next day I went back out to the car, removed every safe fuse (not SRS) i could and replaced them exactly where they'd been, then I did the resynch of the fob as you (and others in other threads) had suggested....there's nothing in the handbook about that and Service at the Stealers hadn't mentioned it. Finally I dared to press the fob LOCK button and held it down till the "see you home" lights came on. Magic. The central locking worked without a mislock or sounding of the horn....and it's been fine ever since especially over the weekend when I helped junior Gadgetman move flat (with much locking and unlocking of the car).
So, it could have been that a new battery was needed (it was the original but still showing a green tinge, though mainly on the black side. in the viewing cell). Anyway, all is good, and I hope you have success with your Frelander sort out.
