Hello .
Just got a lovely '95 disco this week rust free with under 90 k miles and delighted. Previous owner 83 year old seems to of lost the fob but everything works as it should except central locking which is a pain running around vehicle. Don't really want alarm or fobs as live in rural Ireland and who wants to steal a 95 Disco anyway. Question is, is it possible to operate central locking without a fob ?? by simply using the key in drivers door, and not using a fob at all.. appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Unless the micro switch at the rear of the lock barrel is faulty, then there won't be any signal back to the alarm / central locking ecu.
You must have a 200 series or an early 300 as with later 'standard' 300s you wouldn't be able to start your engine without a fob.

Thanks you both for advice. I will begin by checking fuses and then drivers door unit. It is an early 300tdi and totally original complete with service history,

If you lock the car on the key, if fitted it will not arm the volumectric sensors so you could leave a dog in the car. Not sure if yours, as it is an early 300Tdi will have this feature, not all models did. The sensors are either above the passenger side B pillar or occasionally above the mirror in the middle. Just depends where the commitee wanted to put it at the time.

Hi , Actually had a look and seen sensors above mirror. I have the security code for the vehicle what if I tried to get a replacement fob , would it be a load of hassle ? However I really don't like too much carrying around a fob in my pocket . I much prefer just using a tiny key and central locking for ease of access

If the old owners been using just the key, then you've got nothing to worry about. If its been parked up for a while and the fob since lost, then I would worry about getting a replacement.

Had a look first thing I did was check fuses and found satelite 1 and fuse number 1 a 15 amp was blown , replaced it and its now operating central locking system , however each time I open vehicle the anti-theft alarm unit under left side glove box rattles for 2 seconds ? . If this is faulty and maybe it blew fuse in first place and I need to replace it, does this raise a whole load of security issues ? could I get one from a friends scrapped car ?
