Hi,
I have had my home heating changed from oil to gas and I am going to have to pay to have the remaining oil removed from my tank before I can get the tank moved. I already run a small percentage of veg oil in my 300tdi - would it hurt to add a small amount of central heating oil or does it lack the lubricating properties ??
thanks

Yes it does lack the lubricating properties BUT a small amount per tank would be good. Why did you go to gas? Will cost you a fortune - I would keep all the oil in drums and slowly "get rid" of it in the LR. It is illegal because its not taxed for the road, but the odd gallon will be unnoticed. I take it it is yellow kero and not red gas oil, if its red I would NOT use it.

like disco says, if its yellow put it in yer tank mixed with diesel, if its red go for for welshies idea ;)

I mixed heating oil and cheap engine oil at a 12.5:1 mixture during the 2001 fuel crisis. I used a few tanks full in my vw transporter with no ill efects.
I don't know what the long term effect on your engine would be but i would definately try it again. My brother gave me the recipe from a person who runs an old diesel car who has done this for years.

Its all about keeping the Viscosity similar - the kero has far to low a viscosity and will not offer enough lubrication, the oil is too viscous so with the correct blending you can get it right! The kero has a higher cetane rating and the heavy oil has a lot of energy so between the 2 you get a good fuel... VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
