Hi 4x4er,

Not going fast you say, here the speed is limited to 120 kmph on motorways and as said in another thread, last month we did a 475 kms trip and it took us exactly 5 hours to do, in my opinion it's quite a decent average we did, no ?? (to be honest mine is chipped and has got some 142 bhp and a torque of 310 Nm now, donce since october 2001 and still enjoying the extra's every driving day).:)

so the speed limit is 75 mph and you managed an average speed of 96 km/h which equates to 60 mph not too fast imo saying you had a stop start journey it would mean you probably had to travel at 85-95 mph to achieve the distance.

I dont mean its a sports car either, had plenty of those!! what I was saying is that for a 4x4 its quite competant at the higher speeds 80-110mph, aswell as the round town and off road driving. its extremely versatile.

Yes, it was around 85 mph, but note I was not alone on the road, so all in all I think it is not bad at all, seen the speed limits, the traffic and the kind of vehicle. Last time I was on the road with one of my neighbours driving a D90 it was at a much lesser average I can tell you ;) ;)
Besides it is not only the time but mainly the comfort and the ease one can do it in, certainly not with a D series, the Disco and RR allright, but for such things the Freelander is on a much higher level as others of the kind (SUV's) or sedans of equal value. (my previous car, a Mercedes 190E could not compete with the Freelander on such trips, the comfort, seating etc.. was less and the noise was more, but than the car had 13 years and over 200.000 kms but still, compared to average cars it was still a good traveller car).

well lol what LR are they off of?

hi yes sorry not replied sooner on that one it was only a minute difference from your post and Ive been in and out all night, yes I have upgraded my wheels they are now 17" from a freelander and they are quite wide 225's so that helps in the cornering, however it has reduced my off road ability slightly as my old 15's had a taller sidewall allowing me too reduce the pressure giving better traction. But as I do have a freebie looks count baby, looks count!

yep look good.
what about the side steps you can get for the freelander.every been tempted?

hell yes but cant decide on the bar ones or the big metal steps or the flat shaped ones, so untill I go to one of the shows to look at some side by side im gonna sit on the fence for a while..

Hello everyone!, well I have a question for you...and I know u r all busy but.....has anyone had any problems with there central control unit? the reason I am writing this is because my drivers door doesnt unlock but locks!! and my intermittant wipers are working erratically they stop half way up my windscreen, and dont return and then 10 seconds later return but not at the original place they should be if that makes sense??? well I have read the manual (haynes) and the rave cd and they all say these componants are all contolled by the central control unit. Now,I thought I could possibly re-programme it by disconnecting the battery a bit like re-starting a pc but this has not helped, do I need to go to the stealers to get the thing reprogrammed? pleeeease heeeelp! Malcolm ps *or* does anyone now a specialist near bournemouth?
Solved intermittent wiper problem by fitting new motor, cheap solution as motor only £30 on eBay.

Holy thread revival!!
I suspect that the OP has fixed the problem or most likely sold the vehicle by now.
