Hello everyone!, well I have a question for you...and I know u r all busy but.....has anyone had any problems with there central control unit? the reason I am writing this is because my drivers door doesnt unlock but locks!! and my intermittant wipers are working erratically they stop half way up my windscreen, and dont return and then 10 seconds later return but not at the original place they should be if that makes sense??? well I have read the manual (haynes) and the rave cd and they all say these componants are all contolled by the central control unit. Now,I thought I could possibly re-programme it by disconnecting the battery a bit like re-starting a pc but this has not helped, do I need to go to the stealers to get the thing reprogrammed? pleeeease heeeelp! Malcolm ps *or* does anyone now a specialist near bournemouth?

Check out my question here on page 2. I also have the same central locking problem, it started about 2 weeks ago. I haven't had chance to fit a new solinoid as its been with the steelers to fit a new head gasket at 34000 miles.

Let me know if you fix it.

Having owned a freelander for 6 months and driven for 4000miles these cars are plagued with problems. I'm beginning to think they are pretty cr*p. I'm going to chop mine in soon for a jap one. The Which? report says you should be supprised it a Toyota breaks down. I think its the opposite for a Freelander.

The main stealer told me I needed a new door latch. I'm not sure if that is a part or not. I'd didn't go into details as I had a whole list to run through.

Hi Labiarat. . .not an expert on car trickery ,but you don't say what model, however think you might get my drift here,on the 2000 on td4 wiring [fl6] in engine f/box is tied up with the door latch/ wiper system, check for loose connections[this is a 120a link]so think you would have a lot more faults,so unlikely,[e2] earth connection in engine bay rh/rear , is a earth for both wipers /door system, worth looking at these, but my hunch is the wiper self parking is playing up[do the wipers self park]and sods law your solenoid[l/r call it a motor] in your door is sticking. . .try wd40 on both to see if either improves. . . if the wiring is completely different, you can read my logic for looking for tie ups. . .hope this helps. Ming:cool:

hi you can also check the connections at the ccu if you look at passenger fuse box take off cover the right hand side has 3 connectors on the ccu the top connector controls the horn the wipers double locking and single locking check that the connections are good as the get a bit loose,if you have a power probe the orange and pink wires do the locking 12v and an earth down 1 then change wires round to unlock the wipers maybe just a motor fault as they do have a switch built in for parking that does go wrong but sometimes you can lube inside motor to fix just awkward to get motor out, tiga

Thanks guys for advice, I have taken it to a garage in Verwood who have replaced the door lock they tested the ccu and found that it was ok, however this has cost me £170! they have also diagnosed that my windscreen wiper motor has failed and that I need a new one! so all in all my little girl aint gettin no xmas prezzies this year! thanks Landrover! anyways on a lighter note the garage at Verwood did give me a good discount being a freelander owners club member, they knocked £21 quid of the bill...... if anyone wants some good service and some good advice I would reccomend Terry Johnson Motors at Verwood, near Three legged cross in dorset.:)

well.... not the central control unit after all.... its the windscreen wiper motor, its starting to fail Ive just had an autologic on it... can ya believe it a windscreen wiper motor......! never... ever.... in all the years I have been motoring have I know a windscreen wiper motor to fail good old landrover, I bet they negotiated a deal with whoever supplies these items and they shafted em with cheap inards!

nothing is really built to last anymore.
get an old series 1 landy one. that will last forever!

or you could convert to manual leaver opperated wipers but that would spoil the freelanders interior:D (joke)

good luck

well with holiday that I have just had I have managed to replace the windscreen wiper motor with a 98 models one!!! and it works hooooray! why do LR get such crappy parts for? grrr!!! looks to me the older stuff was much better. Also what a nice and easy job it was tho three bolts and the whole windscreen wiper mechnaism comes out .. result!

Labierat. . . Nice one, but how did you get on with your driver door problem. . . Ming

it was the solenoid motor on the door, had to get a new one in the end, so it all works again now except for the slowing down at 88mph! pulls like a train up to that but once ya wanna go higher it dont wanna know.

because its designed to go to schools,to the shops and not drag strips:eek:

they are designed to go everywhere, is that the only place you go to then is schools? well why do they make the range rover go as fast as it does then? and the V6 freelander..? if you drove past your school and went on one of those there dual carriageway thingys you might be suprised in the cars ability to go above 30mph.....

yep up to about 88 then it slows down  :p (all in jest)

seriously tho' they do go well, when it was workin I did have go up to 110mph then ran out of revs... it was as stable as any a car would be.
