Hi,
They were working fine. A month ago CD changer would not show up on display and then the radio now has no sound-it lights up though.

Any help would be much appreciated.

lazbaz, it would help to know what year the p38 is as the system changed between model years.

If you are getting no sound but it seems to be functioning it could well be the amplifier, which if i recall sits behind the subwoofer and cd changer. if both have taken a dump, as datatek says, check for water ingress in that area.

RR P38 is year 2000 registered.

I did take out the sub/cd changer unit when I intended to go on offroad trip-I did not.

I put it back and cd/radio was working for a few months.

so your head unit looks like this ?

That's the alpine unit.

have you checked for moisture around the sub/cd changer/amplifier area ? if no sound but everything functioning the amp is probably toast.

as for the cd changer not showing that would surmise a connection problem between the head unit and the cd changer.

You may like to check the connections.

Yes-that's it. I will have a look around the sub/cd changer unit.
WAMMERS gave me a link to the radio repair manual (http://p38arover.com/rover/p38a/Clarion_PU9836A.pdf) and I hope I can find something. But it appears it is an Alpine unit- where can I find a repair/service manual?

WAMMERS gave me a link to the Clarion radio repair manual (http://p38arover.com/rover/p38a/Clarion_PU9836A.pdf) and I hope I can find something. But it appears it is an Alpine unit- where can I find a repair/service manual for this?

Its most likely not your head unit. if the head unit is functioning but no sound the fault is probably with the amplifier, of course diagnosing electronics over the internet is just a wild guess.

The amplifier looks like this RANGE ROVER P38 Harman kardon amp XQK100210 or XQX100340 | eBay and is located behind the subwoofer in the boot.

If your Cd changer and amplifier are both on the fritz, it is likely you have water in there as they are located centimeters from each other.

Thanks for all the info. I hope it is not the amp as it is costly to me. I am waiting for the weather to brighten up a bit so I can poke around the unit.

i hope it is not the amp for you too.. the LR cost is 450+ vat and it is a non returnable item. IE you order it and find out you don't need it. its yours.

Replacement units on ebay range from between 150-300 but unless you get it from a reputable supplier, you may be being a toasted unit.

I don't know if there are any amp repairers these guys may be able to help or point you in the right direction if it is the amp. UK | GB 4x4 RADIOS

check all the connections first and make sure it is dry there. we've had some rain recently !!

That's Harmon Kardon:confused: Looks identical to mine and as sure as hell mine is not Harmon Kardon, mine has a CD player in the boot but no amp and no SUB, works with the CD player disconnected.

Harmon Kardon badged up the ICE which was manufactured by other suppliers, either Clarion or Alpine with Harmon Kardon labeling for Land Rover.:5bcheers2:
