ran the power from the back of the cig lighter from the centre console

then used the swr after messing around with the aerial and got a reading of around 1.2

but then after about 10 mins the radio completely goes off then back on again , just cycles on and off

am going to this weekend run power directly from the car battery

hope I haven't buggered the CB up as it frightened the life out of me when the CB kept going on and off

didn't hear anyone , just static

currently got the aerial mounted on my spare wheel bracket

so the CB is useless at the moment , disconnected the power to it for now

am thinking of putting my roof rail on and getting a gutter mount so I can get the base of the aerial above the roof line , with a quick release fixing, will be easier then for me to take the aerial on and off

wrote down all the great info that u guys kindly gave me

trying to get it operative before the lz event next week , getting a bit stressed as its getting closer and want to get it up and running

just wished to report back

ps is there anyone near me please that may have a spare swr meter please as I'm not convinced mine is giving a spot on reading, just on the off chance so I could put another swr meter on mine to double check it , would have thought I may have heard something and not just static

old swr meters do fail.
sounds like a loose connection in your power supply

it's a moonraker swr meter and I've recently found out that they've had problems , they had a batch that went out where the aerial and CB lead connections were the wrong way round and also giving inaccurate readings

hope it's just a loose connection, that's why I will run new wires directly from the battery to rule out any problems ,

just seems strange that it begins to happen after around 10 mins, just hope the CB is ok , is brand new and just been sitting in its box for a while

High SWR reading won't cause the whole unit to turn on and off. It's either a faulty unit or power supply.

Either way if you don't get it sorted it's not a big issue and not worth getting stressed about.

just trying to get the final thing done on car, lol

fingers crossed just a simple power supply issue ,

Hi
I run my power supply from front power socket to a twin socket then from that to cb and sat nav never had any probs as for moonraker swr meters I'm on my third first two played up . My aerial is spare wheel mounted and swr is about 1'5 Teddywood is the man for radio probs he helped me out no e nd .just out of curiosity what make of cb are you using.

hi mate

got the tti 900 , has a very small depth and fits in the centre console very well

Hi
I was originally going to use one of those but went for a midland Allan 48plus mine fits under passenger glove box came from thunderpole .if I was closer I would gladly check your swr as I have two meters hope you get it sorted
Regards Trev.

I'm sure that even if you don't get it sorted the event will be the perfect place to get some assistance and have plenty of other rigs there to get genuine radio checks done. If you don't get it sorted before the meet just take everything with you be prepared to buy a bacon butty or two 😉

that's a good idea ,

will run a new supply from the battery so that's all done and will then bring everything with me

bacon butties coming up, along with plenty cups of tea

any offers, lol

oh ok a cake too

have a look at the fuse it may be one of those that trip out and as soon as cool it will come back in try a different one some makes put them in to protect there stuff or it could be the thermo switch in the radio. but do try a supply strait to the battery first.

cheers mate I didn't think about them fuses

just looks like an ordinary clear fuse

going to try and get the new wires ran tommorow, Sunday from the battery to the CB, so at least that bit will be done

funny enough I saw a hippo this morning that has he's 3 door roof rack on and has used a gutter mount , to fix the aerial on the back drivers side roof bar , so is basically on the corner of the car

noticed on the back of the CB there is a small rubber bung and behind it looks like a small resister , wonder if I should remove it to allow air to get in

seems strange with it going on and off like that , will redo the power supply and go from there and at least that will be one less point to deal with

thks again and will report back after I've redone the power

Sounds like a some bad capacitors in the unit, open it up and check if any of them are bulging at the top

just opened it up, here are a pic top and bottom

on the side of the fuse it's got

F5AL250v

CB is a TTi TCB -900

serial number FE000467T

it all looks ok but one thing not to do is to go poking the capacitors while looking strait down at them ,my friend did many years ago while trying to trace a fault and lost his eye the top of the capacitor shot off ,is this a new unit if so take it back the antenna will have nothing to do with it keep switching off.

I bought it off line but can't remember where from , lol
