You will need tow rope (if that's what you're talking about, yes) It does help to have tow hooks attached to them though because it's not fun farting around doing and undoing knots when you may be in a stressful situation. Not only that, but it can be difficult to undo a knot after having been towed. You can pick up tow rope from most fuel stations for about £5. But do keep in mind that they will be of mediocre quality and not suitable for heavy use. Funnily enough, there's more to tow rope than just being a piece of rope.
You may also need some gardening tools believe it or not! I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned already.
Spade (Sometimes you need to improvise)
Hedge trimmers (unless you want holly branches and the like to do some artwork on your car)
Hand saw (For use on
fallen or dead branches etc)
Ofc, do not go chopping down trees though, or you will find yourself becoming very unpopular with the tree people!
I had to use my saw the other day when a small branch somehow got lodged underneath the car, jammed above the back box, with the other end rubbing against the tyre! It was getting dark at the time and it just seemed impossible to dislodge it, no matter how hard we yanked on it. In the end, I cut it in half so that it wasn't rubbing against the tyre. If I didn't have a saw, I'm guessing I would have wrecked the tyre on the way home.
Other handy items:
- Torch
- Clean towels (Useful for wiping dirty hands, and also useful as serving as a mat when having to kneel down on mud)
- Jump start kit
- Bottles of water
- Decent mats that are easy to clean
- Seat covers
A
high lift jack can also be very useful but these can also be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. As the name suggests, they can lift your landy very high, but they can easily become unstable.
Some of the above may seem like non-essential items. However, being properly equipped is really a godsend when you need it though. I keep much of my stuff in a nice big toolbox, so it doesn't look like my boot is full of clutter.
