did you make sure you joined the coax rite, the inner has to be seperate to outer,as one part recieves the signal, the other transmits,if any part of the two meet it wont work right, just something for you to check, all the best, nunny

Errm no the outer cable acts as as an earth point and shields the inner core thus preventing interference form external soources and ensures the signal reaches the antenna as clean as possible. In effect it is a faraday cage

when i installed mine i seperated the cable and connected the oter part to ground and the inner to ariel.so guess your right,a lad thats been into cb,s years told me what i wrote in the above, but thinking bowt it ya right, apologies

there is not that many 'breakers' on anymore, if it's one of them, new digital ones, are you in the right mode, most people still use 27mhz (uk 40) and some use the higher part of the band CEPT/Mid block (European) band, depends if you have set either the uk 40, or the european band in when you turned it on, or the CB you have may gives you the 80 channels back to back, you'll have to state which radio you have.

Also there could be nobody in range, i can get to a home based antenna 17 miles away from the CB in the car, but he only picks me up because he has quite a good radio, and antenna, my range from my homebased antenna to my car is about 3-4 miles, so depending if anybody else is tranmitting in your catch area, then you'll hear nothing, try asking for a radio check on channel 19 uk 40 band, see if anybody responds.

hope this helps :)

So, without wishing to take over post. Any ideas about a CB that works ok with engine off but when on, gets really poor reception, ta

Came already with cable in dash from previous owner. Picking up on MHM comment, got replacement alternator a few months back so could be related. Any other views appreciated as is ****ing me off now

Take a direct feed. (fused of course off the battery) and see if that cures it.

Just a question...when you said digital, i hope you meant a digital display?

The new digital two ways require licences, they run on the same frequency as taxis/emergency services etc - to run one privately would cost £200 licence fee. These will have a good dozen or so numbered buttons on, so enable you to direct call a frequency. Similar to the old scanners.

Analogue CB's either digital display or otherwise will cost nothing as the old frequency is no longer used.
