hi im not sure where to post this so ill put it here.

Im having problems setting my cb up in the 90. the SWR is really high when transmiting yet i can still hear people talking.

I know the unit is fine as i use it in my series aswell. At first i thought maybe its a poor earth so i added a ground cable to a good earth. No difference.
Next i thought it maybe be a mystical thing i have read every where called "ground plane". ( I currently have it on a small plate bolted to the gutter at the back to avoid pepper potting my 90. So i made a large plate that sat on the roof... no difference.

I bought a new cable tested it for shorts.. No difference. Swapped the whips from the 90s to Series.. No difference. Changed mounting bit gor whip and nor difference... So im kind of stuck now... any one got any ideas? Hopefully i have given enough details.

Thanks

I am looking to get a CB radio at peterbrough show, are they hard to set up? I can do mechanics all day long but no good at electrics

I've got to bugger off now but just out of curiosity what were your swr readings at channel 1, 20 and 40?

thanks for the quick reply. I have been using both of my aerials one thats for the 90 and one i have for the Series. I checked and they arent shorting out. Then SWR reading are of the scale on the box so i couldnt tell you the exact reading. Im now going out to try putting it some where witha bigger ground plane. Ill post my results,

Thanks

ok so i tried putting it on the wing.. no difference. Then i did several things... rechecked all my connections, made sure the power leads were away from any other electronic devices (Incase of interference?) and also made sure my coax was nice and non kinked and away from most the body work....
Now i get around 1.65 for channel 1 and about 1.3 for channel 40. I adjusted the length of the aerial but i think i have got it as close as i can. is this ok? And do you think i have cured it..

Thanks for all the help :)

Under 2 and you laughing but the lower you can get it the better.
SWR higher at channel 1 than channel 40 means your aerial is electrically short.
However if your saying thats the best you can get it..... c'est la vie ;)
